Go "Green"

What is a green building? It is a building designed to be ecologically correct by using resources efficiently, using internal recycling, renewable energy sources, recycleable or biodegradable construction materials, and blending in with the local environment, particularly in out-of-town locations. The objectives are to reduce to a minimum the environmental impact, and to take human health factors into consideration. A perfect anti-global warming building can really help in the war against Global warming. Having a roof garden not only reduces the heat gain and temperature but also, there's natural light. You don't have to on the lights to be able to see what you are doing. Then, we should also install the water efficient feature. There should also be natural ventilation so we can save on electricity by not switching on the fans or air conditioner. We can also install the energy efficient air-conditioner. Actually, we were thinking that no one would want to buy and replace an existing air- conditioner that is actually still working. Some of us might think that water is unlimited. But, we are absolutely wrong. Water is not unlimited. Therefore, we should not take for granted what we have will always be. Can Global warming be stopped? Is it possible? We should all look far ahead, over the horizon. Be optimistic. Think positively. Look to the brighter side of the future. Don't let it be bleak. Global warming can be stopped. Time is the only enemy. Can we, humans stand against global warming or will it take a turn for the worse? Now, what we can do is to take part in everything that we can do to help our planet. Let us do our part in upholding the safety of our beloved planet..

The invasion of Mr. Carbon

Carbon dioxide is making its way into Earth, or should I say, it's already in Earth. Carbon dioxide is released by the seconds. Even now.. as we respire.. The most ideal way is for us to stop breathing - that would certaintly be the best way to save the Earth. However, we would end up dying out of breathlessness.

Cars.. Is it really a neccessity for all? Think about the kms you travelled and link back to how much carbon dioxide was emitted. Feeling guilty? As much as possible, try to walk, or at least cycle. It does not hurt to exercise. Exercise is good for your health. We should all try to hitch a hike more often. What you can do to attract drivers is to put a big signboard infront of you stating where you are going. I am sure most of you have heard about the hydro-powered car. Even though it has a low horse power, you can save a lot of money and also contribute in saving the Earth. If not, public transports are always there for you.

Buses and trains are up to 5 times more energy efficient than the car. Using public transport also saves space on our streets. A double-decker bus carries the same number of people as 20 fully occupied cars but takes a seventh of the space. That helps to prevent traffic jams which are especially harmful on our environment. If the average speed decreases from 50 km/h to a walking level of 3.5 km/h , the car needs six times more petrol than normal. Cycling and walking are of course even cleaner and healthier!

Don't want paper bags?

What can we all do to PREVENT paper bags from being thrown into the dustbin?

Very EASY. Firstly, you will have to capture the person's attention. So, the paper bag must be nicely decorated. Schools can organise competitions for students to participate in it. What the competition can be like? Students will be given a plain paper bag. They will get the opportunity to showcase their artistic talents by drawing/painting on it. The best ones will be picked out and showcase to the public. Owners of paper bags might find the bags too nice and cannot bear to throw it away. This way, more paper bags will be saved.

Ways to stop Global Warming..

Things you can do efficiently to help stop Global Warming..
  • Use public transports more often instead of always driving.
  • Reduce the usage of hot water. (Alot of energy is used to heat water.)
  • Grow a tree. ( During photosynthesis, the process of making food involves the exchange of gases. A tree, for instance takes in carbon dioxide and gives out oxygen during photosynthesis. This, as a result, does not only benefits humans but also our planet. So, it's a win-win situation.)
  • Watch less television.
  • Use non-print materials. ( Save paper )
  • Adjust air-conditioner to 25 degress celcius.
  • Recycle more.

The Inconvenient Truth

This is the true video of what is happening to our planet.
We do not wish to do this but, this is an inconvenient truth.

The dire consequences of global warming..

The dire consequences of global warming..
It is evident in the world around us that very dramatic climate changes are taking place because of Global Warming.
Subsequently, the things happening around us are made visible. What can you say about mountain glaciers in our world? What I can say is this, almost all of the mountain glaciers in the world are now melting, with many of them at quite a rapid speed. What has happened to our world today? Is it the cause of humans or is it that our planet neglected us? Ask yourself this question, have the planet betrayed us or have we betrayed our planet. Obviously, we all know the answer. So, why are we doing this? Seek for the answer in your own heart, do you not feel guilty? Polar ice caps are melting. People are suffering from the intensifying heat. Floods, droughts and other natural disasters have become a major problem for us. What can we do to stop all this? What have to be done? The world's life is at stake. We have only this home to live on. Even if it is the slightest thing that we can do to save our planet, we still must, without any hesistation, do whatever that we can willingly.

Take action!

Don't just talk, Take ACTION!

The causes of Global Warming.. Why? How? Some say it occured naturally. Is that so? My answer to that question is a NO. So how did it happen? Global warming was largely due to human activites that are causing damage to the Earth. For instance, the cutting or burning of trees ( The term used"Deforestation") in order to have more land to build houses and etc.. SO what can we do to help our pitiful planet from dying? The most common but taken for granted.. Which is none other than : THE THREE Rs! Recycle, Reuse and Reduce! Many of us want to know why must we recycle, reuse and reduce.

Let's take paper bags for example. Paper comes from trees. Meaning, the cutting down of trees. Simple? So if more paper bags are produced, more trees will be cut down. That's the relationship you will have to remember. Therefore, if we reuse paper bags over and over again, the industries will not produce as much paper bags thus, it reduces the number of trees being cut. That is one way how we can save Mother Earth by reusing.

Now comes recycling. Let's take plastic bottles for example. Plastic bottles are by far, the most common thing to be thrown away for no good reasons. As all of you should know, plastics are non-biodegradable which means it cannot be decomposed until a certain period of time. (Would take centuries for it to break down.) If people bring it to the incinerator and try to melt it, it would work. However, it will only cause more damage to the Earth. Why? It is because plastics when melted, emit poisonous gases that are both harmful to us, humans and our planet. We should always recycle. It doesn't only apply to plastic bottles. Cans can be recycled as well. There are many things that can be recycled. So, think twice before you throw anything away. You never know it might cause great damage to Earth. We should all take part in upholding the safety of our planet.

Now we are talking about reducing. SO what is reducing? Yeah yeah, something dropped in quantity or decrease in amount. But if we are talking about science here, it's a whole different story altogether. Reducing, reducing, reducing.. So what exactly is it? Check out from the dictionary yourself. Okay, just kidding. Let's take what we do in our daily lives for example. When you are brushing your teeth, you should use a mug instead of using your hands to rinse your mouth. Always remember to use cold water. What matters most is that you try to save water. If you can save even the slightest bit, you should still do it. Switch off your lights and fans when not in use. That will save you some electrical bills.

Remember, always try to practise the Three Rs- Recycling, Reusing and Reducing. What you can do, do. What you can't do, try to do. To quote confucius" Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it."

Global Warming

Global warming...

So what exactly is it? Some may refer it as "climate change" otherwise, known as "Global Warming". Generally, global warming is an increase in the average atmospheric temperature in Earth. To further define, it is the increase in the average atmospheric temperature that causes corresponding changes in climate and that may result from what scientists call it " the greenhouse effect." Expected long-term effects of current global warming are rising sea levels, flooding, melting of polar ice caps, fluctuations in temperature , drought and forest fires. Most of these are due to human activities. Can you imagine us, earthlings to be living in space or other planets? Sounds ridiculous, no? The answer is right infront of your eyes. Our planet dying by the seconds. The depletion of the ozone layer.. This is our only home. Let's not take for granted what we have will always be.
