Go "Green"

What is a green building? It is a building designed to be ecologically correct by using resources efficiently, using internal recycling, renewable energy sources, recycleable or biodegradable construction materials, and blending in with the local environment, particularly in out-of-town locations. The objectives are to reduce to a minimum the environmental impact, and to take human health factors into consideration. A perfect anti-global warming building can really help in the war against Global warming. Having a roof garden not only reduces the heat gain and temperature but also, there's natural light. You don't have to on the lights to be able to see what you are doing. Then, we should also install the water efficient feature. There should also be natural ventilation so we can save on electricity by not switching on the fans or air conditioner. We can also install the energy efficient air-conditioner. Actually, we were thinking that no one would want to buy and replace an existing air- conditioner that is actually still working. Some of us might think that water is unlimited. But, we are absolutely wrong. Water is not unlimited. Therefore, we should not take for granted what we have will always be. Can Global warming be stopped? Is it possible? We should all look far ahead, over the horizon. Be optimistic. Think positively. Look to the brighter side of the future. Don't let it be bleak. Global warming can be stopped. Time is the only enemy. Can we, humans stand against global warming or will it take a turn for the worse? Now, what we can do is to take part in everything that we can do to help our planet. Let us do our part in upholding the safety of our beloved planet..

The invasion of Mr. Carbon

Carbon dioxide is making its way into Earth, or should I say, it's already in Earth. Carbon dioxide is released by the seconds. Even now.. as we respire.. The most ideal way is for us to stop breathing - that would certaintly be the best way to save the Earth. However, we would end up dying out of breathlessness.

Cars.. Is it really a neccessity for all? Think about the kms you travelled and link back to how much carbon dioxide was emitted. Feeling guilty? As much as possible, try to walk, or at least cycle. It does not hurt to exercise. Exercise is good for your health. We should all try to hitch a hike more often. What you can do to attract drivers is to put a big signboard infront of you stating where you are going. I am sure most of you have heard about the hydro-powered car. Even though it has a low horse power, you can save a lot of money and also contribute in saving the Earth. If not, public transports are always there for you.

Buses and trains are up to 5 times more energy efficient than the car. Using public transport also saves space on our streets. A double-decker bus carries the same number of people as 20 fully occupied cars but takes a seventh of the space. That helps to prevent traffic jams which are especially harmful on our environment. If the average speed decreases from 50 km/h to a walking level of 3.5 km/h , the car needs six times more petrol than normal. Cycling and walking are of course even cleaner and healthier!

Don't want paper bags?

What can we all do to PREVENT paper bags from being thrown into the dustbin?

Very EASY. Firstly, you will have to capture the person's attention. So, the paper bag must be nicely decorated. Schools can organise competitions for students to participate in it. What the competition can be like? Students will be given a plain paper bag. They will get the opportunity to showcase their artistic talents by drawing/painting on it. The best ones will be picked out and showcase to the public. Owners of paper bags might find the bags too nice and cannot bear to throw it away. This way, more paper bags will be saved.

Ways to stop Global Warming..

Things you can do efficiently to help stop Global Warming..
  • Use public transports more often instead of always driving.
  • Reduce the usage of hot water. (Alot of energy is used to heat water.)
  • Grow a tree. ( During photosynthesis, the process of making food involves the exchange of gases. A tree, for instance takes in carbon dioxide and gives out oxygen during photosynthesis. This, as a result, does not only benefits humans but also our planet. So, it's a win-win situation.)
  • Watch less television.
  • Use non-print materials. ( Save paper )
  • Adjust air-conditioner to 25 degress celcius.
  • Recycle more.
